Superfine Merino Wool
Fibre facts & benefits
Superfine Merino wool offers incredible benefits!
It’s unbelievably soft, strong, versatile, and packed with advantages.
Choosing superfine Merino wool over synthetics is a wise decision for your health and the environment.
100% Natural
Wool is 100% natural, renewable and sustainable, grown year-round by Australia’s 68 million sheep, consuming a simple blend of water, air, sunshine and grass.
100% Biodegradable
As the earth's temperature changes and soil microbes compete for space and nutrients, wool actually composts back into the earth in a very short timeframe, offering valuable nutrients back to the soil.
100% Renewable
Every year Australian sheep naturally produce a new fleece, making wool a completely renewable and sustainable fibre.
Wrinkle resistant
Wool has a natural resistance to wrinkles; this property can be found at a microscopic level with each fibre behaving like a spring returning to its natural shape after being bent.
Naturally breathable
Merino has the unique ability to breath against the skin, channel moisture away from the body and insulate against temperature extremes.
Warm and cool
Unlike synthetics, Merino wool is an active fibre reacting to changes in body temperature. It is a highly efficient insulator keeping baby cool and fresh in hot temperatures and cosy warm in colder weather.
Odour & germ resistant
Unlike synthetics, Merino wool has a naturally protective outer layer, resists wet and dry soiling and minimises odours. What’s more, the lanolin barrier (which is naturally antibacterial) wards off the common cold and flu.
Soft on skin
The secret to Merino wool’s softness is its exceptionally fine fibres. Merino is able to bend far more than traditional coarser wool; it feels luxuriously soft next to sensitive skin making it the perfect choice for baby.
Easy to care for
Merino wool is in itself inherently self-cleaning and easy to care for. On the rare occasion you need to wash your baby blanket, we recommend gentle hand washing and drying in the shade to prevent damage to the wool.
Stain resistant
Merino wool fibres have a natural protective outer layer preventing stains from being absorbed. It also repels odour-causing microbes and resists static, so it attracts less dust and lint.
Fire resistant
Due to its unique chemical structure and moisture content, wool is naturally flame resistant and difficult to ignite. While cotton catches alight at 255°C, the temperature must reach 570-600°C before wool will ignite (polyester melts at 252-292°C and nylon succumbs at an even lower 160-260°C); wool never melts so it can’t stick to the skin like many common synthetics.
UV resistant
Merino wool is naturally resistant to UV radiation, protecting your baby from the sun’s harmful rays.
Aids relaxation & sleep
Merino wool regulates body temperature and heart rate creating a safer sleeping environment for baby while improving sleep. With its softness, springiness and thermo-regulating properties, baby will feel more comfortable and therefore is more likely to relax and sleep well.
Allergy & eczema friendly
Wool is not an allergen. Despite its heavy moisture content, wool’s dry porous nature repels mildew and dust mites making wool a wise choice for allergy sufferers. * Murdoch Children's Research Institute found superfine Merino wool can reduce rather than exacerbate eczema symptoms. "Merino wool's greater ability to transfer moisture than other major apparel fibres enable it to maintain a more stable micro-climate between the skin and the garment."
